Or maybe I should say the "latest attempt." I love it when a multinational company, with ties to slave labor in Communist China, tells me that socialism is good. The level of cluelessness is approaching critical mass.
As I type this, the numbers on Metacritic are 48% for the critic scores, and 6.0 for the audience score. Metacritic is really the only site you can trust today. IMDB is owned (and managed) by Disney, so you will not see a bad review of a Disney or Marvel movie. And Rotten Tomatoes has playing with the stats since they decided that if you don't like a movie or show that pushes The Message™ you are evil, so they will alter things.
I was never going to see this movie, because Disney/Marvel pissed me off a long way back. But if there had been a glimer of a hope that Disney/Marvel Phase 5 would be something other than trash, the reviews of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have killed that hope. It will be worse that Phase 4, Stage 4, Phase Bore, or whatever you want to call it.
The first video review I watched was from Film Threat, because I like Chris Gore and Alan Ng, and I mostly trust their opinions of films. You can find that review at this link. That is the spoiler-free review. There is also a review containing spoilers from Friday, but I haven't watched that one. Chris Gore does try to find positive things to say, and he says "the first third of the movie is fun." It also includes Dante from Verbal Riot.
Chris Gore said that is film is basically a 2 hour trailer for the next Marvel thing. That is a long reivew at just shy of 35 minutes.
Anyway, the Nerdrotic review, below, is an 18 minute excerpt from Friday Night Tights, which I did listen to because I knew they were all planning to see this movie, and review it. Aside from Chris Gore - who reiterated his "the first third" comment - no one had anything good to say. And there were 8 people (plus Xray Girl - who produces the show) in on the discussion. Gary B., 1/4 Black Garret, Chris Gore, Chrissie Mayr, Shad, Ryan Kinnel, Jeremy (of Geeks and Gamers), and Az of HeelVsBabyface, plus Xray Girl.
That is the video linked and embedded below. It DOES contain spoilers, so if you want to see the movie, I would recommend the spoiler-free link above. The Nerdrotic review is 18 minutes or so.
This is the Nerdrotic Daily video "ANTIFA-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania" is POINTLESS!
So if I'm not watching the currnet crop of movies coming out of Hollywood, what am I doing? I recently rewatched to original Avengers. It is an amazing superhero movie. I also rewatched The Last Starfighter. I had the priviledge a few years back of introducing that movie to some high-school-aged kids of friends. Now college-aged. It holds up well, and the story is so good that you don't mind the ancient digital effects.
I watched the Christoper Reeves Superman over the Christmas Holidays. It is as wonderful as I remember. There are so many good movies from the past, that were not trying to tell me to embrace socialism, or that the society built by white people is evil, that were just entertaining. Hopeful even.
