When Maine began allowing eligible residents to carry concealed firearms without a government license in 2015, gun control advocates warned that Wild West-style gun violence would erupt across the state.
Instead, the opposite has happened.
Instead both violent crime and property crime fell.
Now this is only through 2020 because for reasons that people on different sides of the political divide see differently, the FBI is over a year behind in releasing official crime reports. They are also making it much more difficult to navigate the data. (Spreadsheets and PDF files are SO 20th Century!) The official line is "changes to the system." But the numbers for Blue cities don't look good. You can draw your own conclusions.
While rates of violent crime increased nationally from 2015 to 2020, the rate of violent crime in Maine fell steadily beginning in 2015, after a slight increase from 2014 to 2015, according to data collected by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
Armed law-abiding citizens do not become criminals because they are armed. Criminals do not obey your gun control laws. Why is it so hard for the Gun-hating Left see that? (Hat tip to Kostas Moros and Dogs don't have thumbs on Twitter.
