No where in a story about 911 response time in Portland, Oregon, do they mention "defund the police." Portland Police Bureau's average response time more than doubles in 6 years
According to data from the Portland Police Bureau, it took officers an average of 16.4 minutes to respond to calls in 2022. In 2016, it took them an average of 8.1 minutes.
In 2022, the month with the longest average call response time was October when it took police an average of 20.4 minutes to arrive at a scene. In July it took an average of 19.1 minutes.
Things have been getting worse since 2012, but they really started to go bad in 2019.
In a video PPB published in March 2021, the bureau said there are several factors that contribute to how soon officers may arrive on scene.
One of those things being how many police are on the job, when a call comes in, and is anyone free to take the next call.
I have had several posts about Police and 911 response time in Portland. Here is one from December of 2021: Portland Has a Shortage of Cops - 911 Response Impacted. This is not a new phenomenon, and it is pretty much what the "defund the police" groups wanted.
Portland isn't the only city to have this trouble, because they weren't the only city that defunded the police. If you click thru there is a list of a few of the usual suspects.
