The Heritage Foundation brings us an interesting statistic, and some incidents of defensive gun use. 12 More Incidents in Which Lawful Gun Owners Stopped Criminals | The Heritage Foundation
More organizations are getting into the business of documenting defensive gun use. I'm not sure if The Heritage Foundation is going to be doing this kind of think on a regular basis going forward. The 12 incidents are of interest, and you should click thru, but I will only highlight an interesting statistic that happened in the wake of the SCOTUS decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.
Take, for example, New Jersey, a state where only 870 applications for concealed carry permits were filed in 2021, when residents knew that almost no one would be granted such a permit. This year, the state administrative office in charge of permitting expects that 11,000 applications will be submitted by the end of December.
Similarly, Maryland State Police say that in the two weeks after the high court’s Bruen decision, they received over 7,000 concealed carry permit applications—up from just 1,000 during the same period in 2021.
People in those restrictive states have always wanted to exercise their rights to defend themselves and their families, but were stopped by the authoritarian bureaucracies who don't like armed populations.
Anyway, click thru for that list of occurrences, all from the month of October.
