Is It Possible to Kill an Idea?

In this case the British are trying to stop the march of a certain bit of technology. 3D printed guns: Warnings over growing threat of 3D firearms - BBC News

It is all about "extremists." Because if you object to being a subject (a free citizen is armed), then you are not fit to reside in the UK. The state is all. The state is powerful. Shut up and do what you're told to do, serf.

Dr Basra warns the weapons are "moving into the mainstream" and on to mainstream internet platforms.

The emergence of new automatic weapons much more powerful than early single-shot designs has also increased their attractiveness.

None of this is really new. firearms - relatively modern firearms - can be manufactured without 3D printing by most amateur garage mechanics. But that isn't scary new 3D printing technology. Some of those garage-mechanic methods are still required for the 3D printed guns. They are not all plastic, after all.

Anyway, it is an interesting look at the authoritarian mindset when it confronts the idea that they are losing control of something they desperately want to control. There are also some interesting photos of examples of the FGC-9 displayed at a Europol conference. The image above is of an FGC-9 Mk II from an unrelated source. (Hat tip to Keep and Bear Arms.)
