That sums up the situation in NYC and NY State when confronted with crime. NYC teen gang beats boy, steals sneakers
Video posted on social media shows a gang of teenagers swarming a 15-year-old boy on a Manhattan street, beating him and running off with his sneakers.
The victim was left motionless on the sidewalk.
Joseph Giacalone, a former NYPD sergeant who is a professor at CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said the beatdown is a good example of a case where there is little that can be done in the current criminal justice climate.
“Here’s the problem with this one, you have a gang assault which is a bail-eligible offense, and you have kids that are under the age of 18,” Giacalone said. “So there is just basically nothing you can do to these kids.”
They will have to kill someone before The System can do anything to them.
Lord of the Flies comes to Manhattan? Maybe not quite. Not yet, anyway. [Insert standard reference to Hobbes' State of War here.]
Civilization was nice while it lasted.
