There has been some splash about electric planes. Wishful thinking. This is what's keeping electric planes from taking off | MIT Technology Review
Is someone going to say that MIT is not a valid source of information on tech? Probably.
The problem is that today’s electric aircraft could safely carry you and about a dozen fellow passengers only around 30 miles, according to a recent analysis.
So. drive to the airport. Go thru security. Board. Fly 30 miles. Deplane. That's for a dozen people.
If you really push battery size you might get to fly 19 people 160 miles. Even if the 160 miles works out, how many plans do you need at 19 people per? That works for DC to Baltimore (maybe). But it doesn't work for Chicago to Cincinnati, or even Indianapolis to Chicago.
Hat tip to Watts Up With That?
