Did they expect 911 response times to go DOWN with fewer police? NYC response times to crimes, fires and medical emergencies soar
As the Police Department continues to deal with spikes in major crimes and a mass exodus of cops, response times to all “crimes in progress” during the past fiscal year ending June 30 increased from 11 minutes and 40 seconds to 12 minutes and 44 seconds – or 9.1%, according to Mayor Adams’ first management report.
And it is not like 11 minutes and 40 seconds was a great response time for "crime in progress" calls. A lot of bad things can happen in 11 minutes.
EMS response times are also going up. And Fire response times.
I haven't looked at NYFD or even at fire departments in general, but I know a lot of EMS personnel have been quitting over high-stress and low-pay. And I'm guessing that at least some quit over COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
“We need to fix this because without public safety, you have nothing,” [Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens), who chairs the fire and emergency management committee,] said Saturday. “People’s lives are in danger.”
So if you call 911, and have to wait a really long time, why are you living in a place with incredibly high taxes? For Chinese take out? What are you paying for? Why are you enduring high crime?
