Sparky Bus Fire in Paris

With spectacular video. Electric Bus Catches Fire After Battery Explosion

It is frightening to think what would have happened with passengers on board.

You really should click thru for the video.

Given the speed with which the bus was engulfed in flame, I think some people would have been badly burned if not killed.

And even some of the people taking video seem to be unaware of how incredibly TOXIC the fumes from a lithium-ion battery system fire are. If you see a battery fire, LEAVE the area expeditiously.

This afternoon, the RATP decided to temporarily withdraw from circulation the 149 Bolloré electric bluebuses that circulate on its network.

Le groupe Bolloré doesn't publish - as far as I could find - a list price for the Bluebus. But I have to assume that 149 such buses, cost a lot. RATP (Paris Transit) has a total of 500 electric buses, in a fleet of 4700 vehicles. Losing 149 will impact things, and they are expecting problems, but they will survive.

But rest assured. The problem is not electric buses, and their batteries, in general. The problem is just limited to this particular bus model. The bureaucrats have spoken.

Two of these buses have burned in about one month's time. One at the beginning of April, and one on Friday 29 April, which is one shown in the video.
