Ride The Subway? Not Until It Is Safe

And it doesn't sound like they are trying to make it safe. Subway conductor confronts MTA chief Janno Lieber on crime

He only gave his name as Chris.

A subway conductor outraged about attacks on transit riders and his fellow transit workers confronted MTA CEO Janno Lieber during a live radio interview Wednesday — calling the subway a “magnet and haven for criminals” and demanding more cops to address the problem.

You can click thru for the "official response." What caught my attention is the "actions" taken by NYPD. (Is doing nothing an action?)

“During my shift, you might see the cops come patrol for about a half-hour, and they leave,” he said. “We have deranged people walking around the subways. And the cops, NYPD, will take them off the northbound train — where they harass and torment our ridership and my coworkers — and put them on the southbound train.” Subway crime

So they address disruptive people on northbound trains by putting them on southbound trains. I suppose that they put the people on the southbound trains back on the northbound.

But you can see their point. Why arrest them, when they can't be held? Holding people on bail is unfair, and so not allowed in NY State.

If The System™ was interested in improving safety, they would be getting people causing problems and committing crimes off the street. They aren't interested, and they aren't doing anything.

Civilization is predicated on the rule of law. When that is gone, you have anarchy.

Here is my standard reference to Hobbes' State of War, which exists after the breakdown of law and order

In such condition there is no place for industry, because the fruit thereof is uncertain, and consequently no culture of the earth, no navigation nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea, no commodious building, no instruments of moving and removing such things as require much force, no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time, no arts, no letters, no society, and, which is worst of all, continual fear and danger of violent death, and the life of man solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.
