Without consequences, why would behavior change? Prolific locker room burglar did it again — just weeks after being paroled for 10 felonies, prosecutors say.
Hector Roman is a prolific, yet specialized, criminal. In 2020, he pleaded guilty to seven felony counts of burglary and three counts of identity theft for a series of crimes that prosecutors said involved a financial crime enterprise built entirely on gym locker break-ins.
A judge sentenced him to three or four years on each count, but they were all served concurrently. The state reduced his sentence by 50% for “good behavior,” so Roman got out of prison after serving just two years — on the day before Thanksgiving last year.
Any bets on what he did after he got out of prison?
Just a few weeks later, prosecutors said Wednesday, Roman broke into a locker at a Northwest Side fitness center and stole a man’s property. Then he used the victim’s credit cards to buy gift cards, Assistant State’s Attorney Loukas Kalliantasis said.
His parole has not been revoked. He needs to come up with $1000 to get out on bond. Any bets on what he will do when he does get out of jail?
Stealing from people who are exercising seems to be a growth industry, or at lease Roman is not the only person doing it. Click thru for the details.
Law and Order are such 20th Century concepts.
