They can be a problem worthy of a self-defense action. Mishawaka delivery man attacked by dogs, police said
The carrier, 51-year-old Kevin Nilles, was hospitalized with "substantial" injuries to his face and legs, though he likely would have been more severely hurt if a local resident had not fatally shot one of the dogs, police say.
Nilles was delivering copies of the Tribune shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of Linden Avenue near the intersection of North Home Street when he was attacked by two Rottweilers, according to the Mishawaka Police Department.
The shot got the 2nd animal to disengage. Though he was threatening first responders. It was eventually captured.
The dogs' owner had not been located as of Friday afternoon. A neighbor did not know of anyone owning Rottweilers in the area.
So did the armed good-Samaritan save this guy's life?
"Without the neighbor stepping in, it could have been much worse," said Mishawaka Assistant Police Chief Dan Gebo.
And self-defense is a human-right.
