It is a step in the right direction, but I doubt it will change much in the city. ‘Sometimes individuals just do evil things,’ prosecutor tells judge as suspect appears in court for the killing of 71-year-old grandfather.
A man accused of gunning down a 71-year-old grandfather in Chinatown appeared in court Thursday as prosecutors said they had no clue why he opened fire, other than “sometimes individuals just do evil things.”
He executed this 71-year-old. I think there is a good chance that this is another anti-Asian hate crime, but I doubt that Cook County will pursue that angle.
There is a lot of evidence, including some video. Police recovered a firearm, so that will be tested.
But the surprising news is this:
Alphonso Joyner fired more than 20 times at Woom Sing Tse as he walked down a sidewalk a few blocks from his home Tuesday afternoon, Murphy told Judge Maryam Ahmad. Ahmad said the “overwhelming” amount of evidence described an “execution” and she denied bail for 23-year-old Joyner.
Cops are looking at other "random crimes" to see if Joyner could be responsible for them as well.

This will be portrayed in the national media, if they cover it at all, as a gun crime. No mention will be made of the evil man who killed someone for no reason. The tool he used is beside the point. Would it have been better if he used his car as a weapon?
