Ernest Hemingway wrote about Oak Park, IL that they had "Broad lawns and narrow minds." I think that applies to most of suburbia.‡ In standoff over unmown lawn, Texas man is shot to death
This all took place in Austin, TX, and not Austin the neighborhood in Chicago.
The confrontation began around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday when city code enforcement employees showed up with a warrant to perform lawn maintenance at a home in southwest Austin’s Circle C Ranch subdivision. The homeowner had been notified on Aug. 12 that he had a week to cut the foot-high grass and weeds; he had failed to do that.
That's when it all went bad. He started shooting at the people mowing the lawn. They called SWAT, and the SWAT team did what SWAT teams do.
All over a freaking lawn.
And I am shocked — Shocked! — that the Progressives in Austin, Texas have not realized that mowing the grass is an assault on Gaia. Instead, they have still embraced the idea that a mown lawn is not evil, but good.
If this had taken place in Florida, I would definitely be talking about Florida Man and Peak Florida. As it stands, it is just about the insanity of the world today.
‡ Oak Park, IL is a near-in suburb of Chicago. In fact it borders the neighborhood of Austin in Chicago, which is just to the east of Oak Park. I lived there for a number of years, but Austin was becoming a very dangerous place and crime was - at least to my way of thinking - spilling over into Oak Park. Well, that and it was freaking cold in the winter, so I left for Florida.
I can't find any stories with more details, but this is going to be more than just the "lawn."
ReplyDeleteOne of the stories I found said that the unkempt lawn had become a "safety issue," which I found to be a little strange. Then I saw an article where the sheriff or police chief or whoever held a press conference where he thanked everyone associated with the "successful operation." Which seems even stranger.
DeleteCities pretty much have the same property codes. Critters and malicious insects make homes in tall grass. Yards don't have to look like golf courses, but they do need to be kept kempt.
DeleteFurther proof that the system WILL KILL YOU in order to achieve total compliance. Doesn't matter HOW SMALL the 'transgression' you are guilty of. If you don't submit they have zero qualms about killing you.
