Self-defense, and Defense of Others

That is legal in the state of Arkansas. Prosecutor says deadly physical force justified in Fort Smith shooting

A guy was shooting up an apartment complex, and he killed one of the residents. Another resident retrieved his own gun and put a stop to it. With extreme prejudice.

"Mr. West acted lawfully when he shot Mr. Arnold and likely saved a number of lives in the process," a Police Department news release states. "At last count, Mr. Arnold had fired 93 rounds from his semiautomatic rifle before Mr. West was able to stop him. There were no other fatalities or injuries, though a number of residents were home at the time of the assault."

I get that prosecutors are busy people, but this was a high-profile event that took place in the middle of May. Why did it take 2 months for the DA to realize that he wasn't going to prosecute a local hero? I know DAs Hate self-defense, but they do like to be reelected.
