A grizzly bear pulled a woman from her tent in a small Montana town in the middle of the night and killed her before fellow campers could use bear spray to force the animal out of the area, wildlife officials said Wednesday.
There are more details at the link above. She didn't have her own bear spray, or pepper spray, or anything. She also didn't have a firearm, but she was from California so that is hardly surprising.
They are still searching for the bear in question, since it is considered a "public safety threat." They have the bear's DNA so they will not make a mistake.

They usually want to assure everyone they would be perfectly safe if only they would give up those nasty guns.
And in an update... The Montana wildlife agency has apparently found and killed the grizzly responsible. Grizzly believed to have killed camper, 65, is shot dead after trying to rip homeowner's door off.
DNA will be tested to ensure it is the correct bear, but its behavior indicates it is the problem animal.
'Based on the size of the bear, the color of the bear and the nature of the chicken coop raids, we're confident we've got the offending bear,' said Greg Lemon with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Not a happy ending, but at least no one else will be killed by this bear.
