And not in a good way.
There were 2 mass shootings on Sunday. First up: 11 people shot in Marquette Park neighborhood, 1 fatally, during 1 of 2 mass shootings in as many hours Sunday.
Eleven people were struck by a barrage of gunfire in the Marquette Park neighborhood late Sunday, leaving a woman dead and men and women between the ages of 21 and 57 injured, according to Chicago police.
The attack happened in the 6300 block of South Artesian Avenue around 10:55 p.m., police said in a media notification.
Of the 11 people shot, one has died. Marquette Park is one of Chicago's 77 neighborhoods.
That wasn't the only "mass-shooting" on Sunday. Another took place in the South Shore neigborhood. (From the same story linked above.)
At 8:45 p.m. six people were shot in the 2000 block of East 71st Street in South Shore. Between the two mass shootings, police said there had been at least 17 people shot, two of them fatally — one from each scene.
Police are saying very little about the two shootings.
And no one is saying anything about the 4 people shot at 11:50 PM Friday in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. (5 if you include someone shot 4 blocks away at 11:25 PM.) Either because no one died, or it just can't stand up to the sensational nature of the Sunday's shootings.
From HeyJackass! we get the entire weekend's statistics. I'm not sure if this was a record setting weekend in Chicago or not. The record is pretty awful in Chicago when it comes to things like this. Downward Trend Weekend
Forecasted precipitation and cooler temps will likely keep the F15s grounded and prevent local honor students from nuking Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive Boulevard Avenue Street Way after midnight due to lack of booze.
Final Downward Trend: 8 killed, 71 wounded
2020 weekend tally: 20 killed, 47 wounded
2019 weekend tally: 5 killed, 55 wounded
This despite the fact that there was a "rain delay" between 9 AM and 6 PM on Saturday, during which no one was shot.
