The paper itself is behind a paywall, but we have Professor Yamane's comments on it. Queers with Guns? Against the LGBT Grain | Gun Curious
The printed edition of the journal will be available later this year, but the articles are being posted online once they are finalized. One that I am particularly proud to have had an editorial hand in is “Queers with Guns? Against the LGBT Grain” by University of Texas graduate student Thatcher Combs.
To say that being a gun owner "goes against the grain" of the LGBT community is an understatment. I got much more grief from "The Community" for being a gun owner than I ever got from being lesbian. Most of the guys in my gun club, when I first joined, just wanted to know how they could get their wives/girlfriends involved in shooting.
Here is a part of how the paper's author, Thatcher Combs, describes his work.
In this study, LGBTQ gun owners highlight two major themes. First, they discuss how their gender expression/sexuality creates possibilities for violence. Second, they relate minority oppression with the violent uprisings that created the LGBT movement. As such, these LGBTQ gun owners go against the LGBT movement’s discourse of pro-gun control and structural change.
The more people who are gun owners, the harder it will be for the gun-hating part of the Left to impose their dreams of gun control.
