Truth in Government? Not Hardly

One headline sums up why people don't trust the government. Career burglar, sentenced to 371 years in prison since 1991, adds 7 more to his total.

Is that "371 years" a lie? I certainly think so.

Here's an example.

Six months before the burglary he just pleaded guilty to, Miller was paroled after serving ten years for a home invasion and five burglaries. Court records show he had been sentenced in July 2008 to six 20-year terms, but he served them concurrently and with a 50% good behavior “discount.” So, instead of 120 years in prison, he was freed after ten.

So why the smokescreen about "120 years?" Why not just admit it was 20 years? Because "120 years" lets the prosecutors and the judges pretend that they are "tough on crime!" Or something.

Just another lie from another .gov bureaucrat.
