The gun-hating Left will tell you that if you own a gun, you are more likely to shoot someone you know, than a complete stranger. Someone you know is more likely to be a threat. Even family... Weld man faces assault charge after being shot by his father in self-defense
The father explained his son had drank too much alcohol and became violent, getting into a series of fights that included strangling his father and punching him in the face. The father had a knot the size of a small egg where he had been punched.
The father went to the bathroom to clean blood out of his eye after getting a pistol for self-defense, he relayed to law enforcement. When he left the bathroom, his son pointed a shotgun to the man’s head. A deputy found the shotgun had a loaded chamber in it.
You can't reason with a loaded shotgun pointed at your head.
[The son] had no memory of the night’s events, according to records, other than drinking vodka and watching TV with his dad.
That's his story and he's sticking to it. He was arrested on various charges including 2nd-degree assault.
"People you know" is a fairly large category. Even if you don't think any of your family is going to get blackout-drunk and go into an alcohol-induced, murderous rage, that group includes people at work, at the gym, the guy you see in the coffee shop every morning, the guy who sells you lottery tickets, or whatever. They are more likely to be a threat to you than some random person you have never met. Though random people you have never met can also be a threat. (The world is a dangerous place.)
And in the end it doesn't matter if you know them or not, if you are related to them, or not, it only matters how you deal with the situation.
