He would still be alive, if he hadn't decided to fight. Merritt Island man fatally shot after breaking into home, deputies say.
There was an estate sale, and he showed up during the day, but didn't buy anything. Then he came back at night, I assume to get a 100 percent discount on what he wanted.
But the homeowner and his son also came back, and found him in the home. After a short fight, and the son pulled a gun. They held him, waiting for the police.
When deputies arrived, the homeowner walked outside to tell deputies his son was holding Dodge at gunpoint until authorities arrived. Deputies said when they were preparing to enter the home, another altercation occurred inside and Dodge was shot, according to the news release.
He thought he could get away, and ended up being shot. He collapsed and died on the property.
The investigation continues, but self-defense is a human-right.
