People are often surprised that crime can happen where they live or work, even if it doesn't happen to them. Usually it is neighbors who are shocked (and we have some of that), but it more wide spread. People are shocked that they can be near crime. They thought they were protected by their zip code. Crime happens to "other kinds of people" in "other kinds of places." Or something.
The first story is out of Tennessee. Brazen thieves push Target store clerk and steal thousands of dollars in iPads
News 2 has obtained video from the Spring Hill Target store. The video shows four suspects come to the electronics counter wearing masks.
The female clerk kneels down to unlock the counter. When she slides the door open, one of the thieves pushes her violently aside. The thieves grab 4 iPads valued at $3,000 and run out the door.
The "wearing masks" statement is meaningless; everyone is supposed to be wearing masks.
“She was really surprised and shaken up because you don’t expect that to happen,” said Spring Hill Police Detective Mike Foster.
Then there is Indianapolis: Armed carjacking in Decatur Township follows recent crimes, community voicing concerns
A series of robberies, including carjacking, has people on edge.
“It’s really just too close to home to home, to be honest, and it’s like every day it’s always something new,” said resident Amy Kimes.
If you are reading this, then you live in The Real World™ where crime can, and all too often does, occur. You should not be surprised if it comes to your door, or your place of business. And you should plan for it.
