Only anyone with 2 brain-cells to rub together. Ted Wheeler asks Portland police chief, 911 director for report on emergency call response times
So they cut police budget by 27 million dollars. For starters. Oh, and they hung the cops out to dry.
It currently takes an average of 10 minutes for police to respond to high priority emergencies, an average of 25 minutes to respond to medium priority calls and an average of 63 minutes to respond to lower priority, non-emergency calls, according to the most recent data on the bureau’s website. The data was last updated Nov. 5.
And now they are shocked - Shocked! - to discover they their actions have had some impact on things they didn't want to impact. What exactly did they expect?
SO the city has goals about how long it should take to answer a priority 1 call. That goal is less than 10 minutes. A reasonable response would be to add more cops, but I really doubt that Portland politicians are going to be reasonable. (That would require INCREASING the funding for cops!)
A lot of really bad things can happen in 10 minutes. If your only plan is to call 911 and wait to be saved, you may be waiting for the rest of your life. You might want to formulate a "Plan B."
