No. Not even if they are stealing from you, and especially not if they are running away. Vehicle owner opens fire after alleged break-in on Monteith Drive | KHOU
I don't know why people refuse to understand this.
According to investigators, the vehicle owner saw an unknown man breaking into his car and initially fired his gun, but no injuries were reported.
The alleged suspect attempted to run away, and the vehicle owner chased him for nearly a block before catching up and firing multiple shots, striking the man in the torso, officials said.
Harris County, Texas is home to Houston.
The homeowner who did the chasing and shooting was arrested. No information is available on what he will be charged with, but I would guess assault with a deadly weapon, or perhaps attempted murder.
There was also no information provided on condition of the guy who got shot.
If you have to run down the street after someone, they do NOT pose an imminent threat of death or grave bodily injury. If you stand still, and they run away, they are less of a threat every second they move away from you. I get that you are angry, but the law doesn't care about your feelings.

As in the story I wrote about on Tuesday, this homeowner now faces a legal battle. If he is convicted, he will spend time in prison, and lose his ability to legally own firearms. Over an insured car, or what was in the car.
