Not Even Texas Allows You to Shoot Anyone on Your Property

Your home may be your castle, but it is not a free-fire zone. San Antonio police arrest man accused of shooting woman he thought was a burglar

Johnathon Vasquez is accused of shooting and critically injuring the woman he thought was a burglar after she came onto his property, police said. He faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

She came onto his property. She didn't threaten him. He had time to withdraw and call police. He didn't do that.

Vasquez told the woman to leave, and when she refused, he drew a firearm, according to the police report. The woman still refused to leave Vasquez's front yard and was walking toward the homeowner before he shot one round, striking the woman.

That she was "walking toward him" may complicate the issue, and save the man, but it may not.

The criteria for self-defense, as I understand it, is that you must have a reasonable fear of imminent death or grave bodily harm. The police obviously didn't think that applied in this case.
