California Isn't Sure If You Can Defend Yourself from Wild Animals

But California seems generally confused on a lot of things. Homeowner Shoots Bobcat After It Kills Chickens and Charges at His Wife in Oak Hills - Victor Valley News

An Oak Hills homeowner reportedly shot and killed a bobcat in his yard after the animal allegedly charged at his wife, and targeted his chicken coop.

Oak Hills is about 2 hour drive northeast of Los Angeles. It is located on the far side of Angeles National Forest from the city.

As of Saturday, it remained unclear whether the shooting was considered justified by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, which states on its website, “Bobcats that are harassing or killing pets and livestock may be taken by the landowner or agent under the authority of a depredation permit issued by CDFW.”

OK. The cat wasn't shot because it was threatening chickens. The cat was shot because it was threatening people. But then journalists are confused when the use of a gun is considered legal. Of course it could be that California as a whole is also confused.

Self-defense is a human right. In California it may or may not be your legal right.
