Are You Able Defend Yourself When Seated in a Car?

This is a story that slipped past my news filters, which is why it is 2 weeks old. Masked man shot during carjacking attempt outside St. Pete restaurant, cops say

Floridians in general are heavily armed, but drawing a firearm when you are seated in a car, probably wearing a seat belt, can be an issue. If you are right handed, can you deal with someone, an armed someone, in the passenger seat?

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. in front of the Crafty Crab, 2901 Tyrone Blvd. N. Police said a man was waiting in a car while his wife was inside the restaurant picking up food.

A man in a mask entered the vehicle and “attempted a carjacking,” St. Petersburg police said in a news release.

“The victim pulled out his own gun and fired at the suspect,” the news release states. “The suspect fled the scene and the victim called 911 and waited for police to arrive.”

The would-be carjacker was shot, and fled to a neighboring business. He was taken to a local hospital "where he was in critical but stable condition."

Self-defense is a human-right, and this didn't take place in New York City.

This is the Colion Noir video Carjacker Shot By Armed Citizen In A Shocking Twist Of Self Defense

There are a few things that infuriate me more than carjackers. Home invasions are the only contender. However both situations exploit your vulnerability, but I'd argue you're at an even greater disadvantage when you're in your car. At least in a home invasion you've got some semblance of home field advantage. You can Retreat to different rooms, grab a larger firearm, or maybe even get a heads up if an alarm goes off or a window shatters. In your car, you're basically sitting in a steel coffin.

The video is six minutes.
