Even More Self-Defense in Chicago

The 31st Street Beach has been the scene of a number of violent incidents. Concealed-carry holder opens fire after being stabbed by teen near 31st Street Beach

The incident occurred at around 11:34 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Fort Dearborn Drive. According to police, a 17-year-old girl and a 26-year-old woman got into an argument when the teen stabbed the woman in her right arm with a sharp object.

The 26-year-old, who possesses a concealed-carry license and Firearms Owners Identification Card, produced a gun and fired shots, striking the teenager in the left shoulder, police stated. The 26-year-old was taken to an area hospital and said to be in good condition.

After the doctors were done treating her for being shot, she was arrested.

The woman who got stabbed in the arm was treated at a local hospital and was listed in good condition.

The 31st Street Beach, recently renamed the Margaret T. Burroughs Beach, is part of the Douglas neighborhood, named for Stephen A. Douglas, Illinois politician and Abraham Lincoln's political opponent. It was the center of the Great Migration to Chicago, and remains an important neighborhood. The Checkerboard Lounge, made famous when The Rolling Stones paid a visit, was located in the Bronzeville section of Douglas, until Buddy Guy left the Checkerboard and opened Buddy Guy's Legends in South Loop, in 1985.

Lately there have been a number of violent incidents at the 31st Street Beach, so that the city has instituted a curfew.

Aside from a standard story of concealed carry, this is another in the increasing number of self-defense/concealed carry stories coming from Chicago.
