So I am finally in the process of switching from Spotify to Tidal music streaming services. I don't know that I will be able to get everything I listen to on the new service, but so far they have had all of the esoteric stuff I've gone looking for. And they seem to do a better job with the curated playlists. (By the time this posts, I will probably have completed that move to Tidal. Unless something goes really wrong.)
Tidal also pays artists more. I don't know if you could call it "substantially more," but Spotify pays so little per play, it is obscene. (I can't remember where I saw the pay scales that the major streaming services use. YouTube was the worst on that list.) But then I haven't been happy with Spotify for some time. If they hadn't decided to raise their rates, inertia might have kept me in place, at least for a time. And actually some of the esoteric stuff I listen to has been pulled from Spotify.
This song is "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" by Chet Baker. It is from his 1959 album Chet. It occasionally has the subtitle The Lyrical Trumpet of Chet Baker. It includes an all star lineup. Bassist Paul Chambers, flutist Herbie Mann, and more.
I use Tidal Hi-Fi Plus and have the audio equipment to take advantage of the high-resolution playback. Listening through anything Bluetooth (smart devices, ear buds, etc.) looses the advantage of high fidelity playback because of the inherent deficiency of the Bluetooth technology. Here's a link to a very good podcast about Bluetooth and streaming in general.
ReplyDeleteIf solely for the best compensation of the artists, you're right on the mark.
There is software that will transfer your Spotify library to Tidal.
Regards
Yeah, I know about the transfer software. I did 2 playlists by hand and decided that was a losing proposition. I have a large number of playlists on Spotify because they do such a bad job of associating songs into a given genre. (They still lump my German folk music in with my German Heavy Metal - it's all in German! Idiots)
DeleteEven my bad hearing - a youth spent shooting without hearing protection, and a very large number of Rock concerts - can tell the difference between Spotify and flac. As for Bluetooth, that is just asking for bad quality sound.
I appreciate you're eclectic musical tastes. I listen to some pretty weird stuff also. My wife leaves the house when I crank up Swiss Yodeling on You Tube or Western Swing.
