Schadenfreude - Disney/Marvel Edition

The shill/access media has (finally) started to turn on Disney. Of course with a couple of high profile firings, and 7000 or so layoffs, and a couple of films so bad no can pretend that they made money. That is unless you are completely clueless about how much of the box-office the studios get. (See below.) But the big thing is likely the 28% decline in the stock price in the past year. The stock is down about 49% off the high set in March of 2021.

From Forbes: The Happiest Place On Earth? Not For 7,000 Disney Employees As They Begin First Round Of Layoffs

Bob Iger announced the layoffs in February. The market was happy for a minute.

While Disney made a gain on its original layoffs announcement, the share price has dropped 15% in the weeks since.

Though it has rebounded marginally since Wednesday when the Forbes article came out.

But on to the schadenfreude. This is the Nerdrotic video Marvel in PANIC Mode! Disney is a Dumpster Fire. He covers layoffs, stock prices, Victoria Alonso, and more.

The access media that has been protecting Disney for years, is turning on their masters.

As for the Box Office: While it varies by studio, we are talking about Disney, and from what I understand Disney gets about 55% of the box-office domestically, and about 45% internationally, except in China, where studios get "very little" of the box office. (I haven't seen any decent numbers on China.)

"Access media" because in order to maintain their near-monopoly on entertainment reporting (at least traditionally) they needed "access." That includes invites to pre-release screenings of movies. This is why the critics reviews on sites like Rotten Tomatoes are almost universally positive before a movie comes out or a TV show is released. If those critics give bad reviews, they won't be invited to the next pre-release screening of the next "blockbuster." Of course when you keep saying things like "This is the greatest movie since the last greatest movie" about movies that are crap, eventually people decide you're an idiot and people stop paying attention to your reviews. At some point, you have to tell the truth.

  1. WDW is in my backyard and the big news an every news outlet is the Service Union getting an immediate $2.00 an hour retroactive pay raise, a "living wage" base salary eventual raise to $24.00/hr.

50K plus federal perks and tax credits for uneducated, unskilled, and largely PR immigrants to provide housekeeping to the Disney empire.

The race whores and poverty pimps who run Orlando are screaming for rent control.

Everything the mouse touches turns to sh*t.
