Swamped

This was one of the songs that caused Lacuna Coil to be noticed, even in the US. That is incredibly unusual for a European Metal band, especially a band that skews heavily toward Gothic Metal.

Today's song was originally on their 2002 album Comalies. After the first single off that album got noticed on this side of Atlantic, they released this song as a single in 2004. That first single, "Heaven's a Lie" was featured on MTV's Headbangers Ball in 2003, and that song was included on the compilation album MTV2 Headbangers Ball in October of 2003.

This is "Swamped" by Lacuna Coil recorded at a live concert in 2018.

If you prefer studio versions to live performances, though this is one of the better live recordings I have heard, Lacuna Coil reissued Comalies in 2022 as Comalies XX. You can find it easily on YT.

  1. One thing that is so very different about the European bands, metal and otherwise, is how good they sound in their live performances. I usually prefer the live shows to the studio albums as the crowds, who are very knowledgeable about the music, add so much to the music.

    1. Most artists coming out of the American music scene can't sing without AutoTune, can't play real instruments, and those that do require many takes to get a track right.

I also think that the ability of sound engineers to record live concerts and screen out some of the crowd noise has improved a lot in the past decade of so. You still hear the crowd, and the energy of a live performance, but the music sounds GOOD. At least in a lot of cases.

  2. I agree with both of your points, but even in the past the top talents shine through. Nightwish's End of an Era concert, Within Temptation's Black Symphony concert, or much of the early stuff from Epica. BTW I am fond of the duet with Sharon and Anneke from that show.
