Folks in Toronto are saying no. Or maybe that should be "Hell No!" LEVY: Chaos and crime – the decline of Toronto’s transit system
It is crime, of course. Toronto has apparently decided that it doesn't want cops fighting crime, at least not on transit.
The criminal acts have become so rampant that once regular riders are saying publicly they’re now afraid to use the TTC. It used to be that they never thought twice about riding to downtown sports games and theatre performances.
How can that be? I thought Canadians were peaceful and polite.
Like many cities across the country, this decline has been exacerbated and enabled by politicians who listen far too much to the activists, who have rendered law enforcement on the system and on the streets impotent and who have buried their heads in the sand, refusing to acknowledge they have a real crime or service delivery problem.
There is more. Details on a person set on fire waiting for a bus, a person killed with a pickax waiting for a train, etc.
So on the one hand the Left wants people to use public transit, but on the other hand they embrace - and enforce - policies that result in people staying away from public transit. Are they stupid, or are they lying about their goals from transit?
I vote for stupid. Politicians in big cities are idiots, and not just in the USA. There are details about what they have done in Toronto to ensure peace officers cannot keep the peace, and are afraid of losing their jobs if they even try.
