I'm sure people will argue with me over that title, but I stand by it. Teen charged with 'ambush' murder during carjacking attempt has been arrested 3 times for felonies since 2021, prosecutors say - CWB Chicago
Englewood is one of the 77 neighborhoods in Chicago. It is on the South Side. It is approximately 3 square miles, bounded by Garfield Blvd. to the north, 75th Street on the south, Racine Ave. to the west and the Metra Railroad Tracks (commuter rail, not the EL) to the east. In the 2020 census it was home to just over 24,000 people.
A 17-year-old accused of shooting a man to death during a carjacking attempt at an Englewood gas station this week has been charged with two gun crimes and a stolen motor vehicle case in juvenile court since 2021, prosecutors said Thursday, but all of those cases were either diverted or “informally adjusted.”
Diverted means he was kept out of the jail because why should the commission of felony come with any consequences>? "Informally adjusted" is harder to gauge, but at a guess I would say that prosecutors dropped the felony in favor of a misdemeanor because they didn't want to impact this kid's life, or they just couldn't be bothered.

CWB Chicago gives no information on the victim, and not much is visible in the video of the person who was murdered, but given what I know of Englewood I would hazard a guess that the victim was black. So who exactly is served in this instance of social justice?
So they wanted to keep this kid out of jail, or that is how it looks to me. He committed multiple felonies and suffered limited consequences at best. Why would anyone expect his behavior to change? But social justice is just not about justice, and if a few people die they are just collateral damage.
