Does this really need to be reiterated? Apparently it does. Georgia Homeowner Charged with Murder for Fatally Shooting Fleeing Stranger He Found Sleeping in Vacant House: Cops
A 40-year-old in Atlanta, Georgia is behind bars this week after he allegedly shot and killed a man he found sleeping inside of a vacant house that he owned.
The discovery of the sleeping man might have resulted in a confrontation, but the guy who got arrested didn't shoot at the sleeping-intruder until he was actually running away.
Police have not revealed the identity of the victim, but an APD spokesperson reportedly told Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB-TV that the victim was fatally shot while fleeing from the home. The victim was reportedly an adult male between the ages of 25 and 30.
A shooting can only be considered justified if you are using lethal force to stop what a reasonable person would consider an imminent threat of death or grave bodily injury. If someone is running away from you, they do NOT constitute a threat.
A good law that Police have to get in their brains.
ReplyDeleteCivilians have a different standard than police. Self defense is very different from law enforcement. Police can in fact shoot some one who is running away.
