Because Politics Is downstream of Culture. And the right abandoned all aspects of the culture to the Left.
Gabe Eltaeb is a comics color artist. He paints the colors on the black-and-white drawings that others do. (He is probably also an illustrator, but that is why I know him.) He left DC Comics because the comics got to the point where they were so woke that he couldn't ignore the message that DC was pushing. Members of his father's family were killed by the socialist regime in Libya, and he couldn't work on projects that said America and capitalism are bad.
In this interview (it's a bit over half an hour) Gabe Eltaeb repeats one of my favorite sayings. "Politics is downstream of culture." He goes on to elaborate how the Right/conservatives made a tremendous mistake when they abandoned the arts (and that includes - but isn't limited to - comics, movies and music) to the Left. That is at least part of the reason we have the disaster that we do.
This is the Babylon Bee video: Leaving DC Comics Over Wokeness | A Bee Interview With Gabe Eltaeb. There is also an article about what Eltaeb had to say about DC when ISOM#1 and The Rippaverse (which he worked on) was launching in July of this year below the video.
Here's an article from July of this year that covers some similar ground. From Bounding Into Comics: Rippaverse Colorist Gabe Eltaeb Thanks Superman: Son of Kal-El Writer Tom Taylor For Being “A Phony And A Racist SJW” And Inspiring Him To Leave DC Comics.
As the Rippaverse campaign began to take off at record speeds, Eltaeb later returned to Twitter to give thanks to Taylor, for whom he colored scripts on the aforementioned Superman: Son of Kal-El immediately prior to his exit from DC Comics, writing, “I’d like to thank #tomtaylor for being a phony, and a racist SJW. If it wasn’t for his bad writing and insulting take on Superman, I might have stayed at @DCComics”.
That project, Superman: Son of Kal-El is (was?) the bisexual son of Clark Kent, with the gay kiss that got canceled before it was half through the first story-line. DC will keep it alive for a special run of 6 or 8 issues, because the Woke (as we've seen at Disney) have no trouble pissing other people's money away if it lets them push what The Critical Drinker calls The Message™.
Conservatives (a/k/a normal people) did not abandon anything; they were actively pushed out. I disagree with Ted Beale (Vox Day) about many things, but on one topic he is totally correct, viz., once an organization admits a single SJW into its midst, the organization will inevitably become entirely SJW. This is a corollary to Conquest's Second and Third Laws of Politics: Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
ReplyDeleteThe simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies. Lefties, or SJW's as they are also known are unrelenting and ideology-driven; conservatives still believe in the outdated maxim, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." By operating under that principle, they merely facilitate SJW supplantation and eventual rule because the SJW's NEVER reciprocate, but ALWAYS take the advantage offered. The same is true about politics in general.
I disagree. Conservatives decided a very long time ago, not to push back on things and to ignore things. You won't believe how many times I've been told (by grown men who scream at the TV when their favorite sports-ball team is losing) that I'm being silly for worrying about the state of comics or movies or music or whatever.
DeleteBut politics is downstream of culture, and the right decided not to fight about the culture. And then the GOP decided not to fight about a lot of things in politics because the Left might call me a bad name. Or something.
