Self-defense Is Legal in Pennsylvania

It sounds like charging this guy was a rush to judgement, but then DAs HATE self-defense. Beaver County rules self-defense, withdraws manslaughter charges against Pittsburgh man

Lozier said the investigation included a review of residential security videos, cell phone videos, witness interviews and crime scene forensics. After reviewing the evidence, investigators said Deaderick did not pull or discharge his firearm until Dawkins had cornered him. At that time, investigators said Dawkins displayed a firearm to Deaderick in a threatening manner. Before Deaderick pulled his own weapon, they said Dawkins brandished the firearm and pointed it at Deaderick, verbally threatening him at the same time.

If someone pulls a gun, and threatens you, I think you might be justified in defending yourself. At the point where he has pulled a firearm, you have a reasonable fear of imminent death or grave bodily injury.

So it sounds like the DA filed charges before seeing the video, interviewing witnesses, or doing anything except for saying "I hate self-defense."

The prosecution has withdrawn all charges, and nothing will go forward. Because self-defense is a human-right, and even in Pennsylvania it may be your legal right.

  1. Yes....but how much $$$ is the victim out in legal fees. The process IS the punishment.
