How's That Bail Reform Working Out?

First we can look at the results out of New York. Judges rely on 'cheat sheet' to apply NY's bail reform law

New York’s controversial bail reform law is so arcane that state judges recently underwent a two-part training program on it — and also received an eight-page “cheat sheet” to use in court, The Post has learned.

Because writing clearly - even for lawyers it seems - is a concept that is rooted in the 19th Century. OR before.

But don't worry. Governor Hochul says everything is fine, and she wouldn't lie. She's a politician!

CATCH, RELEASE, REPEAT

From serial shoplifters to repeat car thieves, here is just a sampling of the alleged career crooks in the Big Apple who have benefited the most from the state’s controversial and convoluted bail-reform law:

This is followed by a short list of people committing additional crimes.

CWB Chicago is keeping tabs on the situation in The Windy City. #32: Killer shot motorcyclist 16 times while awaiting trial for a felony gun case, prosecutors say

Prosecutors said Thursday that an 18-year-old Chicago man who has two pending juvenile cases shot a motorcyclist at least 16 times on Memorial Day, causing the victim to crash into a porch and die. Damarion Garron is the 32nd person accused of killing or shooting—or attempting to kill or shoot—someone in Chicago while awaiting trial for a felony this year. The alleged crimes involved at least 66 victims, 14 of whom died.

But it isn't like they could keep them in jail. That would be unfair.

It is certainly unfair to the people who have been shot, who have been killed, and to their families.
