My favorite is that the "Professional Journalists" are shocked that using deadly force in your own self-defense just may be legal, even in New York State. Attorney: NY's 'Castle Doctrine' allows homeowners to use deadly force against intruder
First up: Stupid Criminals. If you're going to break into someone's home, it probably shouldn't be the home of an off-duty cop. This is especially true if he is home when you try to break in.
A suspected burglar was shot after allegedly trying to break into an NYPD detective's West Babylon home Saturday.
The NYPD detective was home, and he shot the would-be intruder in self-defense. The guy who got shot is expected to survive. So the Self-defense box gets checked for two.
Third: The insanity of Journalists, who didn't just get hired yesterday, and are still ignorant - or doing a good acting job of being ignorant - of the Castle Doctrine.
Legal experts say in New York, the homeowner is within their rights to use a firearm in their house under what's called the Castle Doctrine.
The surprise doesn't come through in the prose, you would have to watch the video. I can't recommend the video really; I'm not sure why I watched it.
Lastly there is the neighbor who is shocked to discover that Long Island does in fact exist in The Real World™ and not in some crime-free fantasy land. This is not in the transcript at all, but only in the video.
Self-defense is a human-right. It might be your legal right in New York State, but I wouldn't count on it.
