How Is That Bail Reform Working Out?

Not so good, if you go by the victims. #6: Man killed nursing student months after going AWOL from felony DUI case, prosecutors say - CWB Chicago

This is messed up on several levels.

An Oak Park man killed 20-year-old nursing student Charisma Ehresman after meeting her on social media last month, prosecutors said Saturday. The accused man, Richard Chavez, 24, had been AWOL from a felony DUI case for six months at the time of the alleged murder.

He is the sixth person charged with killing or shooting — or trying to shoot or kill — someone in Chicago this year while awaiting trial for a felony.

This kind of story is becoming so commonplace that I almost feel I should stop highlighting them. Well, CWBChicago is doing most of the work. (That is a maximum "almost" by the way.)

But what interests me are the statistics that come along with this story. The graphic below is from CWBChicago.

And if you can, consider subscribing. They do good work, they don't rely on advertising, and they are one of the few (I count 2) news organizations in Chicago that are really willing to report things that the Mayor and other politicians don't like to see reported.
