When Does Your Family's Safety Prompt You to Move?

Reality is a hard thing to swim against. After Violent Attempted Carjacking In Which Father Was Shot, Bucktown Family Moved Out Of Chicago

Bucktown is not "officially" one of Chicago's 77 neighborhoods. It is technically part of Logan Square. But it has been referred to as Bucktown since forever - when a lot of goats were raised by the Polish community who had settled in the area. Wicker Park, which is also mentioned in the video, is one of the 77 neighborhoods, just south of Logan Square with a population of about 26,000.

After a horrifying carjacking in which a man was shot in the arm, a family from Bucktown packed up and moved from the city.

As CBS 2’s Jermont Terry reported Tuesday night, the Ariola family called Chicago home for 30 years and lived in Bucktown for 21 of them. But all it took was one violent incident in their garage for them to decide to move out of the city altogether.

It wasn't so much the one incident, as it was the realization that Chicago politicians are not doing anything (and not allowing the police to do anything) that might make the situation better.

Chicago Police said they have increased and saturated patrols in the area in light of the spike in carjackings, but many of the neighbors said they fear the criminals won’t back down until they realize they will truly be punished for the crimes.

And Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and her band of non-prosecutors are opposed to punishing criminals.

Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago, has made it impossible for police to pursue criminals, either via car chases, or on foot. So that "saturation of the area" by cops is almost moot.

People confronted by the reality of violence in Chicago are making the determination that things are going to get worse, before they get better.
