UK Judge Sentences Murdering Cop to Life Without Parole

I didn't think they had that option in the UK. Sarah Everard murder: Wayne Couzens given whole-life sentence.

Wayne Couzens was Met Police officer (Scotland Yard) when he met, abducted, raped, and murdered Sarah Everard.

"The misuse of a police officer's role such as occurred in this case in order to kidnap, rape and murder a lone victim is of equal seriousness as a murder for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause," [Lord Justice Fulford] told the Old Bailey. "All of these situations attack different aspects of the fundamental underpinnings of our democratic way of life."

There is more: More from the Lord Justice, from the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick, a bit of reaction from the victim's family, and details of the crime itself.

When Parliament abolished the death penalty more than 50 years ago, it promised the British people that the worst of the very worst offenders would be locked up in jail for the rest of their lives. [SNIP]

Lord Justice Fulford concluded the misuse of a constable's role to deceive, kidnap, rape and murder Sarah Everard was as bad as terrorism.

  1. Like micro aggressions, this is micro terrorism. It may not be organized and the intent probably was just to satisfy his own evil desires, but the result is the same. Distrust of the Police and the Government is the end result. How can you be sure that the next Constable that crosses your path isn’t an evil POS. There was a time when Officer recruits were vetted before they were hired. The intent was to get the best qualified candidate and not based on filling a spot with a certain type of individual.

  2. Do be perfectly clear, I don’t know why they hired this idiot. It is however obvious that a proper background check, including talking to the people in the neighborhood he grew up in, teachers and anyone else who could provide pertinent input, should have washed him out. That’s how it used to be done.
