I have to say that I like this version of the song more than I like the original.
This is "Uncle John's Band" by Jimmy Buffett from the 1994 album Fruitcakes. It was originally released by The Grateful Dead in 1970, but then while I did like some songs by the Grateful Dead, I never really understood why they were as beloved as they were.
Good pick. I'd have to go listen to the Dead's version to decide which one I like better, but that would require listening to the Dead. If that makes any sense.

How about "The Band"? I never understood that one, either. "The Weight" was an OK song, but hardly earth-shaking. I think the thing about the Dead was just the crowd vibe which eventually became self-sustaining. They didn't need the band, just the crowd.
