Tuesday Links - 11 February

A links post that is a bit short today. Real life is like that sometimes; it interferes with blogging.

Tam at View From The Porch has a couple of questions. How cool is too cool? How retro is too retro?

A realistic look at relying on an older gun as your primary defensive piece:

The Other McCain - Obama Judge Orders DOGE to Stop Telling Us Where Our Money Went

You know it’s absurd, I know it’s absurd, the federal judges know it’s absurd and the “journalists” reporting this story also know it’s absurd. They don’t care. They’re at the stage of desperation — viewing Trump as an existential threat — where they don’t care about the plausibility of the claims they’re making. Evil Orange Man is trying to stop their access to taxpayer money, and this must be prevented By Any Means Necessary.

Pixy Misa at Ambient Irony - Daily News Stuff 8 February 2025: Nimitable Edition

The UK government has secretly ordered Apple to hand over encryption keys that would allow it to read any information from any Apple user anywhere in the world. (MacRumors) (archive site)

And speaking of fascists...

Apple may simply stop providing iCloud in the UK in response.

Mike LaChance at The Gateway Pundit - Doctor Tells Journalist Mark Halperin That His Patients Are Still Experiencing Extreme Trauma Over the 2024 Election (VIDEO)

These folks will get little sympathy from Trump supporters and others on the right, after what they put the country through in recent years. They might also want to stop treating politics as a substitute for religion.

Again from The Other McCain - A Shootout in Carnarsie

We do not know why the initial gunshot was fired — robbery? assault? just another Friday night in Canarsie? — but it so happened that at least four cops were within earshot of this incident, and considering how it played out, the suspect is lucky he didn’t get shot dead. Where I come from, you point a gun at a cop, let alone four cops, and you’re likely to die in the proverbial “hail of police gunfire.”

SiGraybeard - The Side of DEI Nobody Talks About

The victim of the DEI isn't really the one in the past, it's the less qualified person that gets hired today. That person hired today hurts anyone hired after them.
