Here is a bit of encouragement from Glenn Harlan Reynolds. Never Give Up. Never Surrender.
Never give up! Never surrender! Fine words from a fine movie, but also a lesson of recent weeks, months, and years, and something I’ve been thinking about for quite a while.
I’ve often used the example of gun rights progress as proof that determined work can overcome the resistance of basically the entire establishment. But this tweet summarizes it well:
In the late 1980s and early 1990s crime was out of control, and like now the "intellectuals" blamed guns and not criminals. Clinton and Co would ban the AR-15, concealed carry permits were unheard of, and more.
But then Florida changed their concealed carry law from "May issue" to "Shall issue" removing discression from county sheriffs. This was in response to Cuba dumping a bunch of criminals into South Florida. The result was to drive down violent crime, once the bad guys figured out that people really were armed.
Today, we aren't arguing so much about concealed carry permits, as we are about laws allowing concealed carry without permits.
AR-15 went from being banned to being the most popular firearm in the US.
States and their restrictions on concealed carry and self defense are losing in court everywhere.
Anyway, go read the whole thing.
Here is a link to the tweet from Cynical Publius he references, which got him started down this path.
