One Dead, One Arrested in Florida Home Invasion

Maybe Immigrants from Chile don't know that Floridians are heavily armed. Sheriff: Manatee homeowner shoots, kills intruder

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, a home owner in the River Club community shot at two intruders entering the rear of his home on Hickory Hammock Circle.

One guy was shot. He died later at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The other guy was tracked down by K-9 units, and arrested.

Manatee County, Florida is on the southeast side of Tampa Bay, with some exposure to The Gulf of Mexico. It is basically across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge from St. Petersburg, and north of Sarasota.

"What we do know, as we work with Border Patrol, what we believe is that the suspect that survived is, Chilean descent, came to California from Chile sometime, a few months ago," [Manatee County Sheriff Rick] Wells said. "I guess if you are from Chile, Border Patrol gives you a 90 day visa. That visa was supposed to expire in September. Suspect never returned back to Chile. somehow made it to Tampa about six days ago."

They have not identified the guy who passed away, I'm assuming that is because they need to notify his family first.

The sheriff had a great quote, which was not included in the other article.

“This is the state of Florida. If you break into someone’s home, you should expect to be shot,” Sheriff Rick Wells said during a press conference.

Self-defense is a human-right.
