More self-defense in California. Oceanside resident fatally shoots home-invasion suspect
Police said the intruder was carrying a 3-foot wooden stake and a rock when he entered an open slider door in a back bedroom. A woman was inside the room.
“The suspect threw a rock at a male resident of the home, striking him in the face,” Mitchell said in a statement. “The male resident retrieved a firearm and shot the suspect.”
The guy who got shot, died at the scene.
Oceanside, California is about 35 miles north of San Diego, on the coast.
And even though he broke in, and injured the male homeowner with a rock ...
Detectives are in the early stages of their investigation and have not yet determined if the shooting was self-defense, Mitchell said.
On some level that is fair, on another level, you can take hedging your bets too far.
Monday’s shooting is the second time in less than a year that a North County resident shot and killed an alleged intruder.
I'm not sure what folks in San Diego, consider "north county," but it is clear that even the journalists are noticing the trend in self-defense. They even mention that the law-abiding citizen used a Glock, though they don't specify the caliber or the model. It is a step in the right direction for journalists, especially those from California.
Self-defense is a human right. It might be your legal right in California, but I'm not sure I would bet money on that.
