Not good if you count the victims. Man gets 21 years for shooting Logan Square carjacking victim (while on pretrial release for 3 felonies) - CWB Chicago
Yes, he was out on pretrial release (bail) for 3 felony charge being handled in juvenile court, when he committed a carjacking, and shot the victim in the hand.
Prosecutors dropped 16 other felonies, including attempted murder, carjacking, and gun violations. He received a consecutive four-year sentence for possessing contraband in a penal institution, a charge he picked up while awaiting trial in the Logan Square case.
It is odd. Chicago prosecutors will tell you they need more gun laws, but the hardly ever seem to prosecute the ones that they do run across.
In Illinois, inmates routinely serve about half of their sentences and are then released on probation.
Duffie was the seventh person accused of killing, shooting, or trying to shoot or kill someone in Chicago in 2021 while on pretrial release. That number has since ballooned to 79 defendants involving 115 victims.
CWB Chicago is keeping score because the judge who started Illinois' version of the no-bail, set 'em free criminal justice system said that there had been no adverse outcomes, or something to that effect. I think the victims of all those crimes might disagree.
