Jerry Seinfeld's recent viral rant on the Extreme Left and PC Crap killing comedy, is reason enough to look at how the Extreme Left and PC Crap are killing all of Hollywood.
Gary B. does a much better job of breaking down the problems that Hollywood has brought on itself than the articles he mentions, or the few I've looked at anyway.
Some of the things he covers, in no particular order.
- Writing circumscribed by DEI mandate
- Bad Writing, Producing, and CGI fatigue
- Alienating fans of franchises for which studios paid Billions of Dollars
- Blaming/vilifying fans when they don't like your work
And more.
One thing the Harper's article mentioned takes note of, is that streaming abandoned the profit model. Amazon, the case they consider, made shows almost out of ego. To chase awards, and hopefully to gain subscribers. But only Netflix has really figured out how to make that work. Well, Netflix and YouTube.

The Harper's Magazine article is too long, and delves into too much history, going back to the creation of the Writers' union in the 1930s.
These are times I miss Sam Kinison. He wouldn't allow any of this to constrain his act.
