3D Printed Guns Have the UK and the UN in a Tizzy

From Impro Guns we get the following. UNODC Working Group on Firearms Held in Vienna. Never underestimate the insanity of the Useless Nitwits at the UN.

In the lunchbreak of the Working Group’s first day, United Kingdom, with the support of the UNODC Firearms Trafficking Section, organizes a side event, entitled “United Kingdom’s Multi Agency Approach to Tackling the Threat of 3D-printed Firearms”. The spread and increasing availability of 3D-printed firearms as feasible lethal weapons that can be used in serious crime is a global threat. This event will be an opportunity to find out more about Project INTERKNOW, the UK’s Multi agency response co-ordinated by the National Crime Agency, to tackling the increasing threat of 3D-printed firearms.

One of the things they want to do is create a "fun mascot" to convince young people that 3D printed guns are not fun. The ideas they have (click thru for images) are just stupid.

Let the pearl-clutching commence.

  1. Oooo They want to expand TV licensing to 3D printers. Just the idea that you need a license to have a thing that over 90% of the time is used to make plastic figurines based on video games speaks volumes.

I've been remiss in not 3D printing a gun. I figure with a moderate capability machine shop, why go for plastic and not just make one out of aluminum? I wonder how long until they outlaw small mills, lathes and any tool capable of cutting metal?

    1. If I was going to build something from scratch I would go for the mill/lathe route. The 3D printed stuff is better today... the electro-chemical rifling stuff is interesting
