Opera Is the Next Thing To Be Canceled

Because the Left will not tolerate ANYTHING that doesn't conform to 2024's cultural norms. Metropolitan Opera puts trigger warning on Puccini's 'Turandot'

If you can't appreciate that an opera from 1926 will not reflect the ridiculous sensibilities of 2026 you probably shouldn't leave your home. Ever. And you should also remember the immortal words from the MST3K Love Theme:

Then repeat to yourself "It's just a show
I should really just relax"

They will destroy everything before they are through. This is how Ray Bradbury had the character of Captain Beatty describe the history of Fahrenheit 451; all the books and stories were canceled one paragraph at a time, because someone somewhere was offended by something. That went on until nothing was left, and books were burned wholesale.

New York City’s famed Metropolitan Opera added a website trigger warning for prospective ticket buyers to Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot,” informing audiences that the 1926 masterpiece set in ancient China could be offensive.

Hey, Metropolitan Opera... I find your trigger warnings offensive. Maybe you should dust off the "Yo, Dawg" meme and put a trigger warning in your trigger warning.

Norman Lebrecht, a critic and owner of the influential music blog Slipped Disc, dismissed the program note as “manufactured racial exasperation.”

“Trigger warnings exist to cover the heightened legal anxieties of theater administrators and the lately-inflated sensitivities of underpaid auxiliaries. They are bad for business and they should be scrapped,” he said.

“Turandot has fictional Chinese characters. If that bothers you, stay away,” he added.

Turnadot, was written by Puccini to a libretto in Italian by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni. It was first preformed in 1926, in Italy.

You can read the rest for yourself. It includes some notes on how the Met came to be so woke after the summer of Floyd riots, and how it is hurting their financial situation. They are spending down their endowment to meet operating expenses. Is that because of Woke? Who can say. Get Woke; Go Broke is a real thing. It probably doesn't help that they created a Chief Diversity Officer position, because that will make the Opera better. Or maybe not.
